Anxiety expresses itself in every individual in its own unique way. After many years of dealing with my own anxiety disorder I have noticed a pattern. It starts with the feeling of tension; an uneasy feeling triggered from what seems like harmless actions at times, then a switch is flipped and it feels like I’ve been turned upside down with all the blood rushing to my head, like complete chaos, and once I am able to calm down I am left with this melancholy feeling, one that leaves me reminiscing the present as if I’ve been torn from reality. This sequence is the visual translation of this pattern, it is a transformation of sound into picture. It is truly up to the audience to make their own connection between what they see and hear, attempting a journey of personal interpretation. The comparison of behavior in sound and visual elements allows the viewer to see the distinction throughout the video, my own personal journey; this does not limit the viewer because I strategically arranged the visual and audio elements to have many meanings. “Dark Cloud” is the working title of the piece; clouds come and go, they sometimes stay for long periods of time, and are sometimes passing quickly over.
